Entre Lune et Soleil

by Hedda Voss

My dear, dear one,

I watched you drift away

Tongue tied like kite-strings

In search of a pedestal for your heart

when a perfectly good heart-pedestal awaits

These stars are unforgiving

and the void is cold.

I wonder when I’ll come across you again,

I wonder how long to look?

Shouldn’t I be finished with this pointless humanism?

The age is already past,

so what lens do you view me through?

A heartless premonition, or

a Godless rumination?

Wherever you are,

I imagine you mesmerized and electrified

like wistful thoughts in my dream mind.

Come on, moon, bring me closer then

and let it all begin again.

Let this be the one

song for a stranger;

you are easily intimidated

so we burn coals

and find meaning in the penumbra.

Then I will become the smaller Sirius

and let fire guide me–

Two stars who cannot touch

circling each other through time

And in that light you ask me,

do I feel the same?

But as for me,

I simply want

to know

your name
